A Basic way to blend your images. Okay, so lets get started:
1) Open up a New Image in Photoshop. Lets make it 400 by 150 pixels.
2) Go ahead and make your Design. For time's sake, I'm just going to do clouds, but you can make what you want.
3) Now open up your image that you want to add to your Graphic. I'm going to use a picture of Orlando Bloom:
4) Now, grab your Magnetic Lasso Tool. It looks like this:
5) Got it? Okay. Now, go back to your Picture. Use your Magnetic Lasso Tool, and click on the edge of your picture, now hold it down, and drag the tool around the edge of your image. Connect your Starting and Finish Point. Note, this step takes the most practice, but the magnectic lasso tool should "help" you get what you want.
Okay, now mine looks like this:
Notice that I didn't get all of Orlando's Body. Thats because I don't intend to use anything really but his shoulders and head . . .
6) Okay, now that you have your picture selected, right click and "Feather" the image.
Set it to about 15 pixels.
Then hit Okay.
7) The Selection around image should now be a bit more rounded . . . this is what we want!
8) Now "Copy" the selected image, by hitting Ctrl+C
9) Now "Paste" the selected image, by hitting Ctrl+V
10) Mine looks like this right now:
11) Now to me, that looks pretty impressive! But I want him to blend in even a bit better with the background, so I'm going to change his color to match the Background. This step is optional!
To do that, I'm going to go under my Layers Palette, and change the Blending Option to "Luminosity", the very last option.
This is what mine looks like now:
12) Alright, and you're done! Touch it up with some Text and a Border, and thats it!
Final Product:
Hope you enjoyed the tut! Happy PSing.
